One afternoon, a local resident and I took a walk down Fox Road. As we strolled, we talked about the history of the area. I learned that the road was named after a former prison governor, and that several of his colleagues once lived there too. The name has stuck, and so has a strong sense of history and community.
The houses along Fox Road are all different. Some are large with wide porches, others are smaller and simpler. Each has its own style and character. Some have been modernised, while others retain their original features. No two homes are quite the same.
Behind many of the houses are long views— hills, or quiet woodland where foxes still pass through. The gardens are particularly striking. Each one is well looked after, yet completely individual. You might see neat hedges, bright flower beds, or a bit of wild charm. They reflect the personalities of the people who live there.
The community is what stands out most. Neighbours know each other, stop to chat, and look out for one another. I heard stories from years ago—about snowstorms, old celebrations, and how the road has changed over time—as well as stories of today, about shared projects and friendships that continue to grow.
As we reached the end of the road, where it dips down and the view opens out, I thanked my host. “There really is a story on every corner,” I said.
